Al-Shabaab Militants Attack US Special Forces in Somalia

Members of the al-Shabaab militant group opened fire at the US Special Operations forces in Somalia during their mission to help troops from Uganda, CNN reported on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The incident took place close to the Somalian capital of Mogadishu, CNN reported citing an anonymous US military official.

Reportedly, none of the US soldiers who are in Somalia on an advise-and-assist mission were injured.

Somalia has been experiencing violence since the country devolved into civil war in the early 1990s. The state’s collapse provided a breeding ground for warlords, pirates and the al-Qaeda affiliated al-Shabaab terrorist group.
Al-Shabaab has been staging numerous attacks in Somalia in an attempt to create an Islamic state ruled by Sharia law.
