A high level delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation Dr. Saad Ali Shire went to Nairobi Kenya to meet with government officials.
The Foreign Minister had a meeting with his counterpart Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kenya Amina Mohamed Jibril and the two discussed key issues including promoting the diplomatic status of Somaliland Liaison Office in Kenya and that Kenya officially opens Liaison Office in Hargeisa, Somaliland to facilitate the mutual communication, emigration and commercial ties of the two countries. The delegation also raised the role that Kenya could take in the recognition case Somaliland requires from the international community and particularly the African states within IGAD and AU as Kenya is a chief member in both organizations.
The delegation of Somaliland also appealed the government of Kenya to donate scholarships to the students of Somaliland as part of building a future for the youth in Somaliland.
The two parts discussed the best ways the two governments can exchange experiences and knowledge in the areas of commerce, international banking system in order to ease and facilitate economic development and foreign investment as well as increasing agricultural production.
The Kenyan government promised to send a high level of delegation from Kenya to Somaliland to participate in the event 18th May 2016, the 25th Anniversary of regaining of Somaliland Independence.
