Job Summary:
Energy Action Partners (ENACT) is seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to join our team in Hargeisa, Somaliland as a Solar Energy Design Engineer or Solar Energy Field Engineer.
The solar sector in Somaliland is at the cusp of rapid growth and ENACT Somaliland is positioning itself to lead the development of a thriving and sustainable renewable energy sector.
The Solar Energy Field engineer will provide installation supervision and troubleshooting & maintenance for grid-tied solar photovoltaic installations ranging in size from 1 – 50 kW, including instruction and supervision to technicians, installation scheduling and logistics, quality assurance and commissioning.
The Solar Energy Design Engineer will be responsible for carrying out site and project assessments, generating preliminary system designs and estimates for inclusion in proposal documents, and preparing full sets of engineering design documents.
Field Engineer Responsibilities:
Work with Project Manager and Design Engineer to create Bills of Materials, coordinate equipment procurement and manage logistics for projects;
Manage staffing for individual projects, including assignment and supervision of in-house and/or subcontracted technicians;
Supervise solar PV installations, including mechanical, electrical, civil and/or structural aspects, while prioritizing high quality workmanship and a safe working environment;
Network with senior internal and external people in own area of expertise;
Execute with little instruction on day-to-day work or with only general instructions on new assignments.
Design Engineer Responsibilties:
Prepare detailed mechanical, electrical, civil and/or structural designs for rooftop systems and free standing ground-mounted solar arrays;
Coordinate with Project Manager, and other project participants to define project design basis and project goals;
Develop designs of solar arrays and necessary equipment to address site-specific requirements;
Work with Field Engineer to create Bills of Materials for projects;
Hold design review meetings with internal and external parties as needed to maintain proper QC/QA on projects;
Assist Project Managers with design-related questions;
Network with senior internal and external people in own area of expertise;
Execute with little instruction on day-to-day work or with only general instructions on new assignments.
Qualifications/Requirements:
2-3 years experience as a solar technician working on design and/or installation of grid-tied and/or off-grid solar PV installations;
Willingness and ability to guide technicians on best-practice tools, materials and techniques;
Professional certification for solar PV grid-tied installation is strongly encouraged
Ability and willingness to work in Somaliland with a positive attitude when faced with the difficulties of working in an underdeveloped sector.

Ability to work in a team environment with a customer service focus;

Compensation:
Compensation starts with a modest monthly salary plus benefits and allowances to cover cost of living and international travel to/from country of origin. This is a great position to gain field experience and be at the forefront of a rapdily growing sector in East Africa. Definite room for growth as the individual gains experience.
