Partnering for the well-being of women and children in Djibouti - May 2017

(UNICEF)- The past years have been an exceptional journey for UNICEF in Djibouti. The country has made significant progress in advancing children’s and women’s rights.

The child mortality rate has been reduced by half over the past decade thanks to comprehensive health, nutrition and water, sanitation and hygiene interventions engaged by the Government and its partners. The proportion of HIV+ pregnant women enrolled in the Prevention of Mother-To-Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV programme and receiving antiretroviral treatment continues to increase.

Djibouti has met the Millennium Development Goal related to access to improved water however, disparities of access between urban and rural areas remain a challenge.
