NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Metro Police said a woman was charged after nearly 200 pounds of Khat was seized from a Nashville home.
Zemzem Seraj, 47, is charged with felony possession of Khat and tampering with evidence.
Police said Seraj accepted a package of Khat that weighed about 60 pounds at her home in the 1410 block of Running Brook Road. Police found an additional 130 pounds of Khat and $9,150 cash during a subsequent search.
Police said "Khat, a Schedule I drug, is a stimulant derived from a shrub that is native to East Africa and southern Arabia. Khat leaves are typically chewed to release stimulant chemicals."
Seraj is being held on a $160,000 bond
