(Addis Fortune)- A landslide that occurred at Reppi Landfill a.k.a Qoshe took the life of a daily labourer, Kassahun Fekade, married and a father of six children.
The accident occurred around 11:00am in the morning.
Kassahun, born in Enjibara, Gojjam, Amhara Regional State, was collecting recyclable materials from the area, when the accident took place.
Tessema Teka, an eye witness of the incident, said that an excavator was digging just an hour before the landslide.
“I think the excavator operator did not pile up the garbage properly,” he told Fortune.
The victim was rushing to save his life during the accident. But, he descended deep down into the garbage, according to Tessema, who has been living there for 26 years and owns a small cabbage farm near the landfill.
“Had I not been around, he would have been buried inside the landfill and left forgotten,” Tessema added.
This is the second time when a landslide has occurred at Qoshe. Six months ago, a similar accident claimed the life of 125 residents living near the landfill.
