Sri Lankan workers in Somaliland return

Colombo (News1st) –  12 Sri Lankan migrant workers who had faced various work-related difficulties in Somaliland
, returned to the island earlier this morning. Somaliland is a self-declared state internationally recognised as an autonomous region of Somalia.

Deputy General Manager of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, Keerthi Muthukumarana said the group returned to the country due to a dispute with the administration of the company where they were employed. Two suspects who had been arrested in Hambantota and Beruwala, over sending these workers for foreign employment to Somaliland, are currently in remand custody.

Muthukumarana said statements will be recorded from the group tomorrow at the Foreign Employment Bureau. The Deputy General Manager urged the public to be cautious when travelling for foreign employment to countries where a Sri Lankan diplomatic service is not present.
